At 18th Week of Pregnancy, your belly is growing bigger and usually, during your second trimester you’re about to gain 3 to 4 pounds per month. You may gain about one pound this week so don’t be surprised!

What to expect at 18 weeks pregnant? What’s happening inside your body?

At this stage of your pregnancy, you may experience increased energy, but also feeling exhausted! Along with the 18th week of pregnancy come the following symptoms:

  • Backaches

Many pregnant women experience aching back which is is another normal side effect of pregnancy hormones.

  • Nose Bleeding

Although this symptom isn’t harmful it could be really annoying! Many pregnant women experience nose bleeding or bleeding gums

  • Dizziness

Be careful not to get up too quickly because you may become so dizzy!

  • Baby Kicking

At this stage of pregnancy, you’re now completely sure you’re not experiencing some gas or muscle issues, it’s your tiny baby moving around your tummy and kicking from time to time!

  • Leg Cramps

Leg cramps can be a sign of dehydration, so drink plenty of water

  • Swollen Feet and/or Hands

This symptom too isn’t harmful but can be annoying. As long as it’s not severe, you’re safe

  • Trouble Sleeping

You can’t sleep well or have bad dreams, guess what? It’s totally normal symptom as your mind is overthinking because your life became baby-centric!

  • Snoring

If you overcome your trouble sleeping, you may experience snoring and actually, about 30% of pregnant women snore because of the increased swelling inside their nasal passages

  • Visible Veins

Many pregnant women notice blue or purple visible veins because of the pressure in their circulatory system

 

How big is your baby at 18 weeks pregnant?

Now, your baby is as big as an artichoke weighing around 6.7 ounces and measuring about 5.6 inches long.

 

What’s happening with your baby? (Your Baby’s Development)

This is an important week for your baby; he or she is becoming amazingly super active and their ears develop and their eyes can detect light. In addition, your baby’s nervous system is developing quickly; your baby starts moving during the 18-22th week of pregnancy.

At 18 weeks pregnant, your baby is feeling everything around you. Actually, they can feel what you’re feeling, hear your voice and amazingly knows who you are! At this time exactly your baby will look so much like a tiny person, he or she can even yawn inside your womb, can you believe it?! Make sure to stay calm and relax most of the time because your mood affects your baby inside your tummy!

Now, you’re almost 45% of your pregnancy, you’re doing great! Remember the second half is always smaller and easier than the first one. Always take care of both of you and your upcoming baby, don’t forget to check this week’s checklist.

The Checklist for the 18th week of pregnancy:

  • Switch your sleep position from back to side
  • Avoid high-calorie and fried foods
  • Continue to eat a nutritious diet
  • Keep taking prenatal vitamins
  • Plan for your baby’s birth
  • Choose a pediatrician for your baby
